Hlǫðr learns of his father’s death, and that his brother Angantýr has gained the kingdom of Reiðgotaland, home of the Goths. With the encouragement of his foster-father and maternal grandfather King Humli, Hlǫðr resolves to ride to claim his inheritance, at first með goðum orðum ‘with good words’. The stanza is introduced: sem hér segir ‘as it says here’.
