Náði folk, þats flýði
ferð skundila undan,
— illr varð hreimr í helli —
heiðit konungr meiða.
Lífs bautt enn, þás unnuð,
aftíg, gamalt vígi,
— kvǫl beið ǫld í eldi
ósæl — djǫfuls þrælum.
Konungr náði meiða heiðit folk, þats flýði skundila undan ferð; illr hreimr varð í helli. Enn bautt þrælum djǫfuls {aftíg lífs}, þás unnuð gamalt vígi; ósæl ǫld beið kvǫl í eldi.
‘The king destroyed the heathen people who fled hastily away from the company; there was horrible clamour in the cavern. Again you offered the devil’s slaves deprivation of life [DEATH] when you captured the old stronghold; the unlucky crowd suffered torment in the fire.’
