Margaret Clunies Ross (ed.) 2017, ‘Ǫrvar-Odds saga 105 (Ǫrvar-Oddr, Ævidrápa 35)’ in Margaret Clunies Ross (ed.), Poetry in fornaldarsögur. Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages 8. Turnhout: Brepols, p. 915.
Mér gaf Hjálmarr inn hugumstóri
fimm bólstaði á fold saman.
Unða ek auði, meðan aðrir mik
hringa kvöddu ok heils friðar.
Hjálmarr inn hugumstóri gaf mér fimm bólstaði saman á fold. Ek unða auði, meðan aðrir kvöddu mik hringa ok heils friðar.
‘Hjálmarr inn hugumstóri (‘the Great-minded’) gave me five homesteads together in the land. I enjoyed my prosperity, while others demanded rings and sound peace from me. ’
The first helmingr follows the prose saga closely, though a line is missing in 7 corresponding to that part of the stanza; from what remains in 7, it seems that Hjálmarr only gave Oddr three (not five) homesteads, though five are mentioned in 344a.
