Rǫgnvaldr Hallkelsson, a former member of the Baglar, had been appointed district chieftain by Hákon and Skúli in the areas around the inner part of Oslofjorden. He was killed by angry farmers at an assembly in Husvik (near Drøbak). In 1221, Skúli and Hákon sail to Tønsberg, and Skúli and his district chieftain Grégóríus Jónsson, Rǫgnvaldr’s uncle, launch a punitive attack on those who had killed Rǫgnvaldr.

[1]: The l. echoes TorfE Lv 4/1I. — [1] dauða Rǫgnvalds ‘Rǫgnvaldr’s death’: Dauða ‘death’ is in the acc. as part of an impersonal construction (rekit vas ‘was avenged’). Rǫgnvaldr Hallkelsson was the first cousin of King Magnús Erlingsson on his mother’s side (his mother was Ragnhildr Erlingsdóttir). — [6] Foldungum ‘Foldungar’: People around Oslofjorden (Folden). — [6] skjalþrungnum ‘garrulous’: Lit. ‘having desire to chatter’. So F. Skýþrungnum ‘cloud-filled’ (so E, 81a) makes no sense in the context.
