Margaret Clunies Ross (ed.) 2017, ‘Ǫrvar-Odds saga 58 (Ǫrvar-Oddr, Lausavísur 25)’ in Margaret Clunies Ross (ed.), Poetry in fornaldarsögur. Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middle Ages 8. Turnhout: Brepols, p. 871.
Nú hefi ek órar iðnir talðar,
þær er forðum vér framðar höfðum.
Opt gengum vér til öndvegis
sigri fegnir; látum Sjólf mæla!
Nú hefi ek talðar iðnir órar, þær er vér höfðum framðar forðum. Vér gengum opt fegnir sigri til öndvegis; látum Sjólf mæla!
‘Now I have enumerated our [my] deeds, those which we [I] have performed formerly. Often we [I] went to the high seat rejoicing in victory; let us [me] make Sjólfr speak! ’
As for Ǫrv 53.
Aside from l. 1, all pronouns, adjectives and verbs in this stanza are pl., but it is assumed that Oddr is speaking of himself here, though it is possible that he includes his close companions.
Text is based on reconstruction from the base text and variant apparatus and may contain alternative spellings and other normalisations not visible in the manuscript text. Transcriptions may not have been checked and should not be cited.
