Gat (3rd pers. sg. pret. indic. of geta ‘get, obtain’), with the understood subject þjóð ‘people’ (l. 7) (so also Skj B; Skald; Andersson and Gade 2000). Other eds (ÍF 28; ÍF 29) give illa gt as ‘insubordination’ as a parallel construction to fyr sanna afgerð, illa gt ‘for proven crimes [and] insubordination’ (ll. 5-6). However, the ModIcel. noun gát ‘heed, attention’ is not attested in ON.
