Notes: [3] Máría (f. nom. sg.) ‘Mary’: This is a form of address, and the ms. reading, Máríu, is an oblique case. — [5, 6, 8] eg á aungvan annan fæddra manna til geingis að fái borgið mier ‘I have nobody else of born men for support so that it may save me’: Construed here as a svá að cl. with svá suppressed. Another possibility would be to understand að (= er) as introducing a rel. cl. (‘nobody else of born men who can manage to save me’); however, að is used very sparingly for er in Mv I–III. — [8] borgið ‘saved’: The missing <r> (721 ‘bogit’) is ensured by the internal rhyme (-org : -org-).
