Notes: [2]: Metrically, there must be something missing here, but neither ms. gives any indication either of what it may be or of a gap. All previous eds have made suggestions, but all are conjecture. — [4] svigna ‘to have sunk’: Lit. ‘sunk’. Svigna is an inflected (f. acc. sg.) p. p. of the first class strong verb *svíga ‘sink’, which is only attested in the p. p. The construction is acc.-inf. — [7] marga aðra ‘many others’: Kock (Skald; NN §3144) prefers for metrical reasons, but against ms. evidence, to reverse the word order.
