Hefnt mun verða         Hálfs ins frækna,
því at þeir göfgan gram         í griðum véltu.
Olli morði         ok mannskaða
Ásmundr konungr         illu heilli.

Hálfs ins frækna mun verða hefnt, því at þeir véltu göfgan gram í griðum. Ásmundr konungr olli morði ok mannskaða illu heilli.

Hálfr the valiant will be avenged, for they betrayed the noble king in a time of truce. Through an evil fate, King Ásmundr caused murder and loss of life.

Mss: 2845(38v) (Hálf)

Editions: Skj AII, 268, Skj BII, 290, Skald II, 153; Hálf 1864, 38, Hálf 1909, 129, FSGJ 2, 130, Hálf 1981, 195-6; Edd. Min. 47-8.

Notes: [4] véltu … í griðum ‘betrayed … in a time of truce’: Lit. ‘betrayed in truces’. Cf. Hálf 17/8. In the sg. the noun grið means ‘right of domicile, home’, but in the pl. ‘truce, peace’.
