Notes: [1] víðu ‘large’: Both for semantic and, more importantly, for metrical reasons, the present edn follows ms. U against the other mss, which give blíðu ‘friendly’, because víðu provides the required v-alliteration. — [2, 4] hróðrmôl líða ‘praise-speeches flow’: See st. 12 and Note to ll. 1, 3 there. — [3] Hroptatýr: This name for Óðinn is listed among the heiti in Þul Óðins 3/6. Its meaning is controversial (see Notes to Hroptr, Þul Óðins 2/7 and Eyv Hák 14/2I). Hroptr as a name for Óðinn occurs again in st. 11/3.
