The name of the metre, kviðuháttr (‘qvidu hattur’) ‘poem’s form’, is given in the heading preceding the stanza.
In papp25ˣ Rugman gives our sts 3-4 as one stanza, and both stanzas are incomplete. For the metre, see SnSt Ht 102. Snorri does not provide a name for the metre, but the term kviðuháttr is also given in TGT (see TGT 1884, 63), and the metre is used in longer encomia as well as (more rarely) in lausavísur (see Section 4, General Introduction in SkP I). — The name of the hero eulogised must have been contained in the missing sections. Based on the content of st. 4 it is likely to have been Sigurðr Fáfnisbani ‘Slayer of Fáfnir’ Sigmundarson. — [1-2, 5-6]: The first couplet of each helmingr is missing.
