Eiríkur konungur fór um veturinn eftir norður á Mæri og tók
veislu í Sölva fyrir innan Agðanes. En er það spurði Hálfdan
svarti fór hann til með her og tók hús á þeim. Eiríkur svaf í
útiskemmu og komst út til skógar við fimmta mann en þeir
Hálfdan brenndu upp bæinn og lið allt það er inni var. Kom
Eiríkur á fund Haralds konungs með þessum tíðindum.

Konungur varð þessu ákaflega reiður og safnaði her saman og
fór á hendur Þrændum. En er það spyr Hálfdan svarti þá býður
hann út liði og skipum og verður allfjölmennur og lagði út
til Staðs fyrir innan Þórsbjörg. Haraldur konungur lá þá sínu
liði út við Reinsléttu. Fóru þá menn milli þeirra.

Guttormur sindri hét einn göfugur maður. Hann var þá í liði
með Hálfdani svarta en fyrr hafði hann verið með Haraldi
konungi og var hann ástvinur beggja þeirra. Guttormur var
skáld mikið. Hann hafði ort sitt kvæði um hvorn þeirra feðga.
Þeir höfðu boðið honum laun en hann neitti og beiddist að
þeir skyldu veita honum eina bæn og höfðu þeir því heitið.

Hann fór þá á fund Haralds konungs og bar sættarorð millum
þeirra og bað þá hvorntveggja þeirra bænar og þess að þeir
skyldu sættast en konungar gerðu svo mikinn metnað hans að af
hans bæn sættust þeir. Margir aðrir göfgir menn fluttu þetta
mál með honum. Varð það að sætt að Hálfdan skyldi halda ríki
öllu því er áður hafði hann haft, skyldi hann og láta óhætt
við Eirík bróður sinn.

Eftir þessi sögu orti Jórunn skáldmær nokkur erindi í
Sendibít:

Harald frá eg, Hálfdan, spyrja

herðibrögð, en lögðis

sýnist svartleitr reyni

sjá bragr, hinn hárfagra.
