Hyrjar nam hvata ferð
hranna eftir draum þann
lýtir, en láðbrjótr
linna kvaddi flokk sinn:
‘Brullaups gjöriz brátt fall;
beimar skulu fara heim;
skjótt hefir skipaz mitt
skap; e*mka eg þó dapr’.
{Lýtir {hyrjar hranna}} nam hvata ferð eftir þann draum, en {{linna láð}brjótr} kvaddi flokk sinn: ‘Fall brullaups gjöriz brátt; beimar skulu fara heim; skap mitt hefir skipaz skjótt; þó e*mka eg dapr’.
{The destroyer {of the fire of the waves}} [GOLD > GENEROUS MAN] began to hasten his journey after that dream, and {the breaker {of the land of snakes}} [(lit. ‘land-breaker of snakes’) GOLD > GENEROUS MAN] addressed his party: ‘A cancellation of the wedding feast is happening suddenly; men must go home; my mind has changed quickly, yet I am not sad’.

Notes: [1] ferð ‘journey’: Jón Sigurðsson suggested för ‘journey’ in the margin of 399a-bˣ. The scribe of 2166ˣ wrote ferð in the main text, but ‘svo; betra fo᷎r’ ‘thus; better för’ in the margin. Jón Helgason chose för in his edn for the sake of the rhyme. — [3] en ‘and’: The scribe of 721 added ‘sa’ but wiped it out, leaving only faint traces of the two letters. — [8] e*mka ‘I am not’: The scribes of 721 and 1032ˣ both wrote eīka’. The nasal stroke can stand for either ‘n’ or ‘m’. Jón Sigurðsson suggested emka in the margin of 399a-bˣ, which the scribe of 2166ˣ adopted in the main text, mentioning Jón’s reading einka (in 399a-bˣ) in the margin. Jón Helgason chose emka in his edn.
