Context: As st. 5 above. The battle-kenning here is glymr Gǫndlar ‘the din of Gǫndul <valkyrie>’.
Notes: [1, 2] hnigu und hramma arnar ‘sank down beneath the claws of the eagle’: Meaning that they died in battle. — [1] fjandr ‘the enemies’: The metre shows that this word (earlier disyllabic fíandr) is monosyllabic here (no resolution is possible in this metrical position), which means that the couplet cannot be earlier than c. 1200 (see ANG §133a and Introduction to Anon (SnE) 5-6 above).
