‘You must acquire accomplishments in all ways which are useful to a good man; they will serve you, even if you have lost strength and all your money.’
Lat. parallels: (Dist. IV, 19): Disce aliquid, nam, cum subito fortuna recessit, / ars remanet vitamque hominis non deserit umquam ‘Learn something; for when fortune suddenly leaves, skill remains and never leaves the life of a man’.
