Keyptir þú Snarvendil með kossi einum;
var þat verð lítit, vel frá ek mér kæmi.
Örr mundir þú af auði, ef optar svá fengir,
jöfurr inn ógndjarfi ok einkarhepni.

You bought Snarvendill with a single kiss; that was a low price, [but] I learnt it was fortunate for me. You would be liberal with riches, if you got such more often, dreadfully bold and very fortunate prince.

Context: Another young woman, who turns out to be princess Álfsól, reminds Hjálmþér of how, when she was enchanted as Vargeisa the finngálkn, he obtained the sword Snarvendill from her for a kiss, which in turn saved her from the enchantment.
Notes: [4] ek frá mér kæmi vel ‘[but] I learnt it was fortunate for me’: Skj B and Skald add the conj. at ‘that’ before mér ‘for me’. — [5-8]: The admonition to the hero to be generous is similar to Hervǫr’s advice to Hjálmþér in HjǪ 27.
