Context: This stanza is introduced by the words: Innsteinn kvað ‘Innsteinn said’.
Notes: [6] ef vér réðim því ‘if it were up to us [me]’: Lit. ‘if we decided about that’. With earlier eds, the ms.’s réðum has been normalised to réðim (pret. subj.), which would have been normal in a text of the C13th in a concessive clause (cf. ANG §536.2), but in a C15th ms. reflects the later Icelandic use of the indic. ending in such circumstances. Similar are Hálf 60/4, 6. — [7] mági ‘kinsman’: Mágr, usually meaning ‘brother-in-law, son-in-law, father-in-law’, here refers to Hálfr’s stepfather, Ásmundr.
