Óxum báðir á Berurjóðri,
Ásmundr ok ek, upp í bernsku.
Skófum skeyti, skip smíðuðum,
gerðum örvar okkr at gamni.
Óxum upp báðir í bernsku á Berurjóðri, Ásmundr ok ek. Skófum skeyti, smíðuðum skip, gerðum örvar okkr at gamni.
‘We both grew up in [our] childhood at Berurjóðr, Ásmundr and I. We shaved shafts, built ships, made arrows to amuse ourselves. ’
[1-4]: Compare similar sentiments expressed in Ǫrv 55/1-4 and Ǫrv 63b/1-2. — [5-7]: The activities listed in these lines are reminiscent of Vsp 7/5-8 (the gods’ first activities on Iðavǫllr) and Rþ 35/3-12 (the youthful tasks of Jarl).
