Context: The stanza is introduced (Heiðr 1960, 56): Þá Hlǫðr hafði heyrt orð Gizurar, þá kvað hann ‘When Hlǫðr had heard Gizurr’s words, then he said’.
Notes: [1] taki þér ‘seize’: The ‑ð in the 2nd pers. pl. pres. indic. was dropped before þér. The pron. was originally ér (takið ér), but the ‑ð was reanalysed as the onset of the pron. (cf. ANG §531.4a). Other eds (Skj B, Skald, Heiðr 1873, Edd. Min.) emend to takið þér, but this is unnecessary. — [2] …: Neither ms. indicates that anything is missing here, but metrically ll. 3-4 must be part of the same long-line. Bugge’s (Heiðr 1873, 284) suggestion to insert Gizurr’s byname Grýtingaliða has been followed by all subsequent eds. — [3] mann Angantýs ‘Angantýr’s man’: Kock (Skald; NN §3144) reverses the word order for alliterative purposes, but this makes the lines unmetrical since mann ought not stand in a lift.
