Um sumarit eftir riðu þeir Hrafn ok Þorvaldr með fjölmenni miklu til alþingis. Á þingi váru kníuð mál þeira, ok váru í fyrstu öll vitni borin í hag Hrafni. En Þorvalds menn báru með honum allir nema einn maðr. Sá hét Vermundr. Hann bar með Hrafni. Ekki varð gert um mál þeira á þingi.

Um vetrinn eftir kom hvalr norðr á Strandir á land þat, er Hrafn átti. En sá maðr, er fann hvalinn, sagði Þorvaldi hvalkvámuna.

Þá gerði Þorvaldr þat ráð, at sá, er fundit hafði hvalinn, skyldi segja, at hvalrinn hefði komit á almenningar ok hefði hann þar fest lögfesti. Þá fór Þorvaldr til ok lét skera hvalinn ok flytja heim.

Nú er Hrafn spurði þetta, sendir hann menn suðr um land til Halls lögsögumanns, mágs síns, ok Þorvalds Gizurarsonar, bróður Halls, ok hafði ráð við þá, hversu hann skyldi þetta mál leiðrétta við Þorvald.

En þeir lögðu þat til, at hann byggi mál til á hendr Þorvaldi ok þeim mönnum, er neytt höfðu af hvalnum, til Dýrafjarðarþings ok sæki þar at lögum.

Sendimenn kómu aftr ok sögðu Hrafni þessi tillög.
