Litlu síðar féll Gamli konungur, sem segir í ævisögu
Noregskonunga, og gerði Haraldur gráfeldur með bræðrum sínum
hinn mesta ófrið í Noregi. En hina síðustu orustu áttu þeir á
Hörðalandi í Storð á Fitjum og fékk Hákon konungur sigur og
banasár. Hann andaðist við Hákonarhellu, þar hafði hann og
fæddur verið, og er hann heygður á Sæheimi.

Eiríkssynir lögðu land undir sig og hétu þeir öllum mönnum
lögum þeim sem Hákon konungur hafði sett í landinu. Þeir gáfu
og höfðingjum nafnbætur sem áður höfðu þeir haft feður þeirra
og svo ríki. En er þeir voru sestir í ríki og festir í landi
þá þótti þeim of mikið vald hafa Sigurður jarl í Þrándheimi.
Þeir komu norður til hans um nótt, tóku hús á honum og
brenndu hann inni. Þeir drápu og Guðröð konung og Tryggva
föður Ólafs konungs og marga aðra ágæta menn tóku þeir af
lífi. Á þeirra dögum var í Noregi hallæri mikið bæði á sjó og
landi svo að margir göfugir menn þoldu eigi vanrétti og
rangindi og drápu bændur ríkismenn ...
