The new edition is either unpublished or unavailable. The following is taken from an old edition (Skj where relevant):

Í þann tíma réð fyrir Noregi Eiríkur konungur blóðöx. Hann
átti Gunnhildi konungamóður. Þeirra synir voru þeir Haraldur
gráfeldur, Gamli, Guttormur, Guðröður, Sigurður slefa,
Ragnfröður, Hrærekur, Eyvindur og Tósti. Þórður réðst til
fylgdar við Gamla Gunnhildarson.

Litlu síðar varð höfðingjaskipti í Noregi. Kom í land Hákon
Aðalsteinsfóstri en Eiríkur konungur og Gunnhildur urðu út
rekin með sonum sínum og landflótta. Varð Eiríkur konungur að
Norðimbralandi. Hann tók skírn á Englandi og féll í víking.
En þegar synir hans höfðu þroska lögðust þeir í hernað og
voru hinir mestu stríðsmenn.

Dvaldi Þórður hreða nú með Gamla konungi. Og er hann hafði
verið þrjá vetur með Gamla konungi gekk hann fyrir konung og
beiddi hann orlofs að vitja frænda sinna og fara til
Upplanda.

Gamli konungur svarar: "Leyfa skal þér Þórður að fara þangað
sem þú vilt en ósýnt þykir mér um fundi okkra. En vel hefir
þú með oss verið. Nú skulum við eigi skildir að vináttu þó að
við skiljum að samvistum. Hér er eitt sax er eg vil gefa þér.
Vildi eg að þú lógaðir eigi nema þú eigir lífi þínu að forða"
og segir að gæfa hefir fylgt saxinu.

Þórður segir: "Þykir þér það sýnna fóstri minn að það muni
þurfa?"

"Eigi þykir mér það ólíklegt," segir Gamli, "því að þú ert
eigi ávallt jafn forsjáll og fyrirleitinn um þinn hag ef þér
býður við horfa."

Og skildu þeir Gamli með hinni mestu vináttu og fór Þórður
til Upplanda og fundust þeir Gamli aldrei síðan.
