Kálfur Árnason hafði verið í vesturvíking síðan er hann fór
úr Noregi en oft á vetrum var hann í Orkneyjum með Þorfinni
jarli mági sínum. Finnur Árnason bróðir hans gerði orð Kálfi
og lét segja honum einkamál þau er þeir Haraldur konungur
höfðu við mælst að Kálfur skyldi hafa landsvist í Noregi og
eignir sínar og slíkar veislur sem hann hafði haft af Magnúsi
konungi.

En er Kálfi kom sjá orðsending þá bjóst hann þegar til farar,
fór austur í Noreg, fyrst á fund Finns bróður síns. Síðan tók
Finnur Kálfi grið og fundust þeir sjálfir, konungur og
Kálfur, gerðu þá sætt sína eftir því sem konungur og Finnur
höfðu fyrr bundið einkamálum með sér. Gekk Kálfur til festu
við konung og alls skildaga, slíks sem hann hafði bundið fyrr
við Magnús konung, að Kálfur væri skyldur að gera þau verk
öll sem Haraldur konungur vildi og honum þætti sitt ríki
bæta. Tók Kálfur þá upp eignir sínar allar og veislur sem
hann hafði fyrr haft.
