Nokkuru síðar er konunginum sögð hersaga, at berserkir hafa
þá fengit sér lið mikit ok herja á land hans. Aðils konungr
biðr nú Svipdag at rísa í móti berserkjum ok kallar þat vera
hans skyldu ok kveðst skyldu fá honum svá mikit lið sem hann
þyrfti. Ekki er honum um þat at vera fyrirmaðr hersins, en
vill fara með konungi þangat, sem hann vildi. Konungr vildi
ekki annat en hann sé fyrirmaðr.

Svipdagr segir: "Þá vil ek þiggja tólf manna líf af yðr, þá
ek vil."

Konungr segir: "Því vil ek játa þér."

Eptir þat ferr Svipdagr til orrostu þessarar, en konungr sitr
heima. Hann hefir mikit lið. Svipdagr lét gera herspora ok
kasta niðr, þar sem orrostustaðrinn var markaðr, ok með
mörgum öðrum brögðum lét hann þar um búa. Þar tekst orrosta
ok harðr bardagi, ok hrökk fyrir mjök lið víkinga, ok fá þeir
illt af, er þeir kenna hersporanna. Þar var drepinn berserkr
einn ok fjöldi liðs, en þat flýði til skipa, sem eptir lifði,
ok svá í burt.

Svipdagr kemr nú heim til Aðils konungs ok á nú sigri at
hrósa. Aðils konungr þakkar honum vel sinn framgang ok
landvörn.

Yrsa drottning mælti: "Víst er þat rúm betur skipat, er slíkr
drengr sitr í sem Svipdagr er, en þá berserkir þínir skipuðu
þat."

Konungr sannar þat. Berserkir safna nú liði aptr, þeir sem
undan kómust, ok herja enn á ríki Aðils konungs. Ok enn
skorar konungr á Svipdag at ganga í móti þeim ok kveðst mundu
fá honum frítt lið. Svipdagr ferr til orrostu ok hefir nú
þriðjungs minna lið en berserkir. Aðils konungr hét at koma
til móts við hann með hirðina. Svipdagr hafði þá enn skjótara
brugðit við en berserkir hugðu. Ok nú hittast þeir, ok tekst
þar hörð orrosta. Aðils konungr safnar liði ok hafði ætlat at
koma í opna skjöldu berserkjum.
