Braut-Önundur átti son er Ingjaldur hét. Þá var konungur á
Fjaðryndalandi Yngvar. Hann átti sonu tvo við konu sinni. Hét
annar Álfur en annar Agnar. Þeir voru mjög jafnaldrar
Ingjalds. Víða um Svíþjóð voru í þann tíma héraðskonungar.
Braut-Önundur réð fyrir Tíundalandi. Þar eru Uppsalir. Þar er
allra Svía þing. Voru þar þá blót mikil. Sóttu þannug margir
konungar. Var það að miðjum vetri.

Og einn vetur, þá er fjölmennt var komið til Uppsala, var þar
Yngvar konungur og synir hans. Þeir voru sex vetra gamlir,
Álfur sonur Yngvars konungs og Ingjaldur sonur Önundar
konungs. Þeir efldu til sveinaleiks og skyldi hvor ráða fyrir
sínu liði. Og er þeir lékust við var Ingjaldur ósterkari en
Álfur og þótti honum það svo illt að hann grét mjög, og þá
kom til Gautviður fóstbróðir hans og leiddi hann í brott til
Svipdags blinda fósturföður hans og sagði honum að illa hafði
að farið og hann var ósterkari og óþróttkari í leiknum en
Álfur sonur Yngvars konungs. Þá svaraði Svipdagur að það væri
mikil skömm.

Annan dag eftir lét Svipdagur taka hjarta úr vargi og steikja
á teini og gaf síðan Ingjaldi konungssyni að eta og þaðan af
varð hann allra manna grimmastur og verst skaplundaður.

Og er Ingjaldur var roskinn þá bað Önundur konu til handa
honum, Gauthildar dóttur Algauta konungs. Hann var sonur
Gautreks konungs hins milda, sonar Gauts er Gautland er við
kennt. Algautur konungur þóttist vita að hans dóttir mundi
vel gift ef hún væri syni Önundar konungs, ef hann hefði
skaplyndi föður síns, og var send mærin til Svíþjóðar og
gerði Ingjaldur brullaup til hennar.
