Sveigðir tók ríki eftir föður sinn. Hann strengdi þess heit
að leita Goðheims og Óðins hins gamla. Hann fór með tólfta
mann víða um heiminn. Hann kom út í Tyrkland og í Svíþjóð
hina miklu og hitti þar marga frændur sína og var í þeirri
för fimm vetur. Þá kom hann aftur til Svíþjóðar. Dvaldist
hann þá enn heima um hríð. Hann hafði fengið konu þá er Vana
hét út í Vanaheimi. Var þeirra sonur Vanlandi.

Sveigðir fór enn að leita Goðheims. Og í austanverðri Svíþjóð
heitir bær mikill að Steini. Þar er steinn svo mikill sem
stórt hús. Um kveldið eftir sólarfall þá er Sveigðir gekk frá
drykkju til svefnbúrs sá hann til steinsins að dvergur sat
undir steininum. Sveigðir og hans menn voru mjög drukknir og
runnu til steinsins. Dvergurinn stóð í durum og kallaði á
Sveigði, bað hann þar inn ganga ef hann vildi Óðin hitta.
Sveigðir hljóp í steininn en steinninn laukst þegar aftur og
kom Sveigðir aldrei út.

Svo segir Þjóðólfur hinn hvinverski:

En dagskjarr

Durnis niðja

salvörðuðr

Sveigði vélti,

þá er í stein

hinn stórgeði

Dulsa konr

eftir dvergi hljóp,

og salbjartr

þeirra Sökmímis

jötunbyggðr

við jöfri gein.
