Notes: [3] þeim er: Here interpreted as a rel. pron. referring back to ástgjöfum ‘love-gifts’ (l. 2). Skj B understands a separate cl. er sigr ok sómi þeim ‘it is a victory and an honour to that one (i.e. God)’. — [4] fróns sólar ‘of the land of the sun’: Although the sky- or heaven-kenning frón sólar occurs elsewhere only in an anonymous helmingr on the Crucifixion quoted in Anon (FoGT) 6/2^III to illustrate the figure of chronographia (SnE 1848-87, II, 196; TGT 1884-6, 123), heaven-kennings on the same model occur very frequently in Christian verse.
