B. Abbreviated references to series or essential works of reference

This is not currently part of the peer-reviewed material of the project. Do not cite as a research publication.

The abbreviated reference may be to a series or essential work of reference, including an electronic database (e.g. LP, NN, ONP). Such abbreviations must be italicised. For example, a reference to page 213 of the Lexicon Poeticum would appear as LP 213. These abbreviated references to series or reference works that are not journals appear in a second list of abbreviated references listed below, which will also appear at the beginning of the published Bibliography.

When preparing your bibliographies and giving in-text references, you will need to conform to the abbreviated reference format for major reference works, series and journals. All other references, including the titles of journals and serial or reference works, must be given in full.

Sigla for prose sources are in accordance with those given in ONP Registre, and these should be followed (>> 6. Sigla for sources). Note that the ONP Registre is periodically updated with the issue of each new volume of the dictionary. In case of doubt about what siglum to use, consult your Coordinating Editor.
