Hörðr mælti, inn hyggjustóri: ‘Hví hrekr þú mik í orðum, Hervör? Væri heldr nær skæru vífi vera hoskum dreng holl í ráðum.’
Hǫrðr spoke, the great-minded: ‘Why do you scold me, Hervǫr? It would be rather more fitting for a pure woman to be gracious in counsels to a wise man.’

Notes: [All]: Cf. Hjálmþérsrímur V, 13 (Finnur Jónsson 1905-22, II, 35). — [All]: HjǪ 1720 excludes l. 1 from the stanza and treats it as prose, while FSGJ presents the whole stanza as prose, though it is a mixture of fornyrðislag (l. 1, if desyllabified, ll. 3, 5-8) and málaháttr (ll. 2, 4). — [1-2] Hörðr … hyggjustóri: Compare Hamð 6/1-2 (NK 269): Hitt qvað þá Hamðir, | inn hugomstóri ‘Then Hamðir, the great-minded, spoke that’. Cf. also the nickname of the legendary hero Hjálmarr inn hugumstóri ‘the Great-minded’ in Heiðr and Ǫrv. — [3-4] hrekr í orðum ‘scold’: Lit.
‘worry in words’.
