Anon Lil 95VII/3 — mætti ‘could manage’

Máría, vertu mier í hjarta,
mildin sjálf, því að gjarna vilda,
blessuð, þier, ef mætti eg meira,
margfaldaðan lofsaung gjalda.
Líflig orð í ljóðagjörðum
listuligrar móður Kristi
eingum tjóar að auka leingra;
einn er drottinn Máríu hreinni.

Máría, mildin sjálf, vertu í hjarta mier, því að vilda gjarna gjalda þier, blessuð, ef eg mætti meira, margfaldaðan lofsaung. Eingum tjóar að auka leingra líflig orð í ljóðagjörðum listuligrar móður Kristi; drottinn einn er hreinni Máríu.

Mary, goodness itself, be in my heart, because I would willingly offer to you, blessed one, if I could manage more, a manifold song of praise. It is to no avail for anyone to continue to add [lit. to augment further] lively words in girdles of songs of the magnificent mother of Christ [= Mary]; the Lord alone is purer than Mary.
