Notes: [All]: With st. 37 begins a series of sts that hail the Virgin Mary, all beginning heil vertu, drottning dýrðar. They present a catalogue of kenning-like epithets for her. The general drift of the sts is clear, although sts 37-40 are fragmentary. — [1] heil vertu ‘hail [be you]’: Emended to vertu here, for consistency with B’s usage in sts. 38-43. — [1] drottning dýrðar ‘queen of glory’: This epithet, probably a calque on regina cælorum, also occurs at 9/7 (see Note to this l.). — [4] sígrblóm ‘victory-flower’: Rydberg adopted Jón Sigurðsson’s suggestion for reconstruction to blóm here (marginal n. to 444ˣ). Both sigrblóm and ljómi trúar ‘beam of faith’ are probably epithets for the Virgin Mary (on Mary images with flower words as base, see Schottmann 1973, 23-34, and 38-46 for those with ljós or ljómi). — [7] vald ‘power’: Rydberg adopted Jón Sigurðsson’s suggestion for reconstruction to vald here (marginal n. to 444ˣ).
