Still all will have paid very dearly for the year when spring comes; if that is true, then things will turn out badly.

Context: This four-line stanza is a continuation of the merman’s prophecy in the preceding stanza and may be considered its concluding statement. It is followed by the words: þá lét Hjörleifr kóngr hann utan borðs ‘Then king Hjǫrleifr put him overboard’.
Notes: [All]: The stanza is again highly irregular metrically, and Þó munu ‘Still will’ of l. 1 is extrametrical. — [1] munu ‘will’: The ms. reading is man, written m with a clearly discernible superscript n; Hálf 1864, Edd. Min. and FSGJ all emend to munu ‘will’ (3rd pers. pl.), agreeing with allir ‘all’ in l. 3, as does the present edn. Skj B, Skald and Hálf 1909 read mun. — [2] ferr ‘things will turn out’: Lit. ‘it will turn out’ (3rd pers. sg. pres. indic. of fara ‘go’). The ms. reads ‘fer’, taken as a spelling for ferr by Edd. Min., FSGJ and this edn. Skj B and Skald emend to fara, while Hálf 1864 and Hálf 1909 prefer fǫr ‘journey’.
