Notes: [All]: According to the prose text (Hálf 1981, ch. 5, 178, l. 36), Hálfr never had more than sixty men on board his ship. — [4] fyrri* ‘earlier’: The ms. has fyrir but this produces a hypometrical line; emending to fyrri ‘earlier’, as has been done by most earlier eds (Edd. Min.; Skj B; Skald), gives the required long-stemmed disyllabic word in metrical positions 1-2. — [4, 6] heldim … hefðim ‘would take … had’: Normalised to the pret. subj. forms where the ms., following C14th Icelandic practice, has generalised the indic. endings (cf. ANG §536.2; Björn K. Þórólfsson 1925, 54-6). — [5] miklu ‘much’: Lit. ‘by much’. The ms. has mikla, which gives no sense. See Fritzner: mikill 3 for the usage of miklu with a comp. adj.
