Sikiley — liði miklu.

Skilfingr, helzt miklu liði fyr in breiðu lǫnd, þars skeiðr skulfu; suðr varð Sikiley of síðir auð.

‘Lord, you led a large host past the wide lands where warships shook; in the south Sicily was finally laid waste.

notes and context

Skilfingr is given in Skm as a heiti for ‘ruler, dignitary’.

The helmingr commemorates Haraldr’s campaigns in Sicily (1038-40). See also Note to Hharð Gamv 2/1, ÞjóðA Sex 2 and Bǫlv Hardr 4.
