The new edition is either unpublished or unavailable. The following is taken from an old edition (Skj where relevant):

Hárekur úr Þjóttu sat heima að búum sínum allt þar til er Magnús Ólafsson kom í land og hann var konungur. Þá fór Hárekur suður til Þrándheims á fund Magnúss konungs. Þá var þar með Magnúsi konungi Ásmundur Grankelsson. En er Hárekur gekk upp af skipi, er hann kom til Niðaróss, en Ásmundur stóð í loftsvölum hjá konungi, þeir sáu Hárek og kenndu.

Ásmundur mælti til konungs: "Nú vil eg gjalda Háreki dráp föður míns."

Hann hafði í hendi breiðöxi litla og þunnslegna.

Konungur leit til hans og mælti: "Haf heldur öxi mína."

Sú var veggslegin og þykk.

Enn mælti konungur: "Ætla svo Ásmundur að hörð munu bein í þeim karli."

Ásmundur tók öxina og gekk ofan úr garðinum. Og er hann kom ofan á þverstrætið þá gengu þeir Hárekur neðan í mót. Ásmundur hjó í höfuð Háreki svo að þegar stóð öxin í heila niðri. Var það bani Háreks. En Ásmundur gekk upp aftur í garðinn til konungs og var egg öll fallin úr öxinni.

Þá mælti konungur: "Hvernig mundi nú hafa dugað hin þunna öx? Mér sýnist sem þessi sé nú ónýt."

Síðan gaf Magnús konungur Ásmundi lén og sýslu á Hálogalandi og eru þar margar frásagnir miklar um skipti þeirra Ásmundar og sona Háreks.
