Nú er at segja frá Þorkatli, at hann unir eigi heima, ok ætlar hann at ráðast austr til Freyseyjar. Ok er hann kemr austr at Kilinum til þess bónda, er Sigurðr hét, ‑ hann var ekki auðigr maðr, góðviljamaðr mikill við alþýðu, ‑ hann tók vel við Þorkatli ok spurði, hví gegndi um ferðir hans. Þorkell segir, at hann ætlar á Kjöl.
"Þar er sú ferð," segir Sigurðr, "er ek vilda, at þú legðir ekki hug á, fyrir því at sú veitir nú mörgum þungt."
"Hvat berr mest til þess?" segir Þorkell.
"Ek veit þat eigi glöggt," segir Sigurðr, "en hitt veit ek þér með sönnu at segja, at allir þeir, er færi fara saman en tólf menn, þá hafa engir aftr komit. En þeir menn, er með fjölmenni hafa farit, þá hafa við enga torfæru orðit varir."
"Þá þykkir mér eigi víst, hvat slíku veldr," segir Þorkell, "ok kann ek ekki at hnekkja för minni fyrir þat. Hitt vil ek ‑ ‑ ‑
