Óðinn varð sóttdauður í Svíþjóð. Og er hann var að kominn dauða lét hann marka sig geirsoddi og eignaði sér alla vopndauða menn. Sagði hann sig mundu fara í Goðheim og fagna þar vinum sínum. Nú hugðu Svíar að hann væri kominn í hinn forna Ásgarð og mundi þar lifa að eilífu. Hófst þá að nýju átrúnaður við Óðin og áheit. Oft þótti Svíum hann vitrast sér áður stórar orustur yrðu. Gaf hann þá sumum sigur en sumum bauð hann til sín. Þótti hvortveggi kostur góður.
