Nú er að segja frá Bersa. Sár hans greru seint.

Það var eitt sinn að margir menn komu til að rætt var um
fundinn hvernig tekist hafði.

Þá kvað Bersi vísu:

Mér hélt Yggr und eggjar

allstyrkr góins vallar,

nauðr hagar nú til fræða,

naðrs, en hlífðir öðrum.

Svo fara ráð, en reiðast

róglinns, sumir minna.

Nú læt eg þar þrjóti

Þórröðr vinun óra.

Eftir þetta fór Þórður að rúminu til Bersa og færði honum
lyfsteininn. Síðan græddi Þórður Bersa og tókst þá þeirra
vinátta og héldu vel síðan.

Við þessa atburði lagði Steingerður leiðindi á við Bersa og
vill skilja við hann.

Og er hún er búin til brottfarar gengur hún að Bersa og
mælti: "Fyrst varstu kallaður Eyglu-Bersi en þá
Hólmgöngu-Bersi en nú máttu að sönnu heita Rassa-Bersi" og
segir skilið við hann.

Steingerður fer norður til frænda sinna, hittir Þorkel bróður
sinn, biður hann heimta fé sín að Bersa, mund og
heimanfylgju, og kveðst eigi vilja eiga Bersa örkumlaðan.
Þorkell lastar það ekki og heitir för sinni. Líður veturinn
og frestast för Þorkels.
