Svo segja menn þeir er glögglega telja að Ólafur hinn helgi væri konungur yfir Noregi fimmtán vetur síðan er Sveinn jarl fór úr landi en áður um veturinn tók hann konungsnafn af Upplendingum.

Sighvatur skáld segir svo:

Ólafr réð hið efra
andprútt höfuð, landi
fulla vetr, áðr félli,
fimmtán, á því láni.
Hver hafi hers hinn nyrðra
heims enda sér kenndan,
skjöldungr hélst en skyldi
skemr, landreki en fremri?

Ólafur konungur hinn helgi var þá hálffertugur að aldri er hann féll að sögu Ara prests hins fróða. Hann hafði átt tuttugu fólkorustur.

Svo segir Sighvatur skáld:

Sumir trúðu á guð gumnar.
Grein varð liðs á miðli.
Fólkorustur fylkir
framráðr tjogu háði.
Frægr bað hann á hægri
hönd kristið lið standa.
Föðr Magnúss bið eg fagna
flóttskjörrum guð dróttin.

Nú er sagður nokkur hlutur sögu Ólafs konungs, frá nokkurum tíðindum þeim er gerðust meðan hann réð Noregi og svo frá falli hans og því er helgi hans kom upp. En nú skal það eigi niðri liggja er honum er þó mest vegsemd í, að segja frá jartegnagerð hans þótt það sé síðar ritið í þessari bók.
