Hálfdan svarti fékk Ragnhildar dóttur Haralds gullskeggs.
Hann var konungur í Sogni. Þau áttu son er Haraldur konungur
gaf nafn sitt og fæddist sá sveinn upp í Sogni með Haraldi
konungi. En er Haraldur konungur var örvasi að aldri þá átti
hann engan son og gaf hann Haraldi dóttursyni sínum ríki sitt
og lét hann taka til konungs. Litlu síðar andaðist Haraldur
gullskeggur. Þann sama vetur andaðist Ragnhildur dóttir hans
en eftir um vorið varð sóttdauður Haraldur konungur ungi í
Sogni. Þá var hann tíu vetra gamall.

Þegar er Hálfdan svarti spurði andlát hans þá byrjar hann
ferð sína með miklu liði og fer norður til Sogns. Var þar vel
við honum tekið. Taldi hann þar til ríkis og arfs eftir son
sinn og var þar engi mótstaða. Lagði hann undir sig það ríki.
Þá kom til hans Atli jarl hinn mjóvi af Gaulum. Hann var vin
Hálfdanar konungs. Setti konungur hann yfir Sygnafylki að
dæma þar landslög og heimta skatta til handa konungi. Fór þá
konungur til Upplanda í ríki sitt.
