Ívar hinn víðfaðmi kom á Skáni eftir fall Guðröðar
föðurbróður síns og dró þegar her mikinn saman, fór síðan upp
á Svíþjóð. Ása hin illráða var áður farin á fund föður síns.
Ingjaldur konungur var þá staddur á Ræningi að veislu er hann
spurði að her Ívars konungs var þar nær kominn. Þóttist
Ingjaldur engan styrk hafa til að berjast við Ívar. Honum
þótti og sá sýnn kostur, ef hann legðist á flótta, að
hvaðanæva mundu fjandmenn hans að drífa. Tóku þau Ása það ráð
er frægt er orðið að þau gerðu fólk allt dauðadrukkið. Síðan
létu þau leggja eld í höllina. Brann þar höllin og allt fólk
það er inni var með Ingjaldi konungi.

Svo segir Þjóðólfur:

Og Ingjald

ífjörvan trað

reyks rösuðr

á Ræningi

þá er húsþjófr

hyrjar leistum

goðkynning

í gegnum steig.

Og sá urðr

allri þjóðu

sjaldgætastr

með Svíum þótti,

er hann sjálfr

sínu fjörvi

fræknu fyrstr

um fara vildi.
