The title of this fragment (Anon Bjúgvís) given here derives from the A ms. of TGT, which introduces the fragment thus (TGT 1927, 64): Sínalimphe tekr ór annan raddar-staf, ef ii. raddar-stafir standaz hit næsta í tveim samstǫfum sem í bjúgum vísum (W has only sem hér) ‘Synaloephe omits a second vowel if two vowels stand together in two syllables, as in Bjúgar vísur’. The phrase should mean ‘bent verses’ and is taken as the title of a poem by earlier editors. ONP: bjúgr suggests that this is not a title but rather a description of the type of verse in which synaloephe can occur, ‘?flexible, pliable (capable of adapting itself to the verse-form)’. This is quite likely: adjectives do not seem to be used as the first element in poem titles. The interpretation of bjúgar vísur as a title is, however, retained here. The fragment is preserved in mss A (main ms. for this edn) and W of TGT.
