1. Skaldic Project Editors' Manual 12. Analysing and formatting kennings

12. Analysing and formatting kennings

This is not currently part of the peer-reviewed material of the project. Do not cite as a research publication.

This material is designed to supplement and clarify the Manual §4-2-7-d and §7-2-j. Sub-kenning is used below to refer to a kenning which is a part (usually the determinant) of another kenning. All examples are given in three forms:

a. prose order for submission — (with reference)
b. translation for submission
c. translation as it will appear in the printed edition — do not submit in this format!

Kennings may also be marked up using the web interface (see >> 13. Web submission instructions). In the web interface, kenning referents are entered separately from the brackets indicating the structure of the kenning. When entering kennings on the web, follow the instructions below unless directed otherwise by the documentation for the web interface.
