Where this is the case, priority will normally be given to the prose work in which the majority of verses are cited, provided it seems to preserve them quite faithfully. Thus, for example, since extended encomiastic poems are preserved more fully in the konungasögur than in Snorra Edda, the best konungasögur mss will normally provide the main text (e.g. AM 61 for Óláfs saga Tryggvasonar in mesta, K(ringla) transcripts for Heimskringla or in some cases Morkinskinna). However, quantity of verse texts by no means necessarily implies quality. Each verse should be considered on its own merits, and where, say, a Snorra Edda ms. has a clearly superior text, this should be chosen as the main text.
The problem noted under (2 d) above is especially acute in the case of verses preserved in more than one prose work.
