The main ms. in many or most cases may turn out to be the same as that adopted in Skj, but an independent view should be arrived at, and some scholars would feel, for instance, that Finnur went too far in privileging certain mss, e.g. the K mss of Heimskringla (and certain K transcripts above others), and the R ms. of Snorra Edda.
