The choice of main ms., and the importance attached to readings of other mss, depends on the quality of those readings (individually and cumulatively within each ms.), the general reliability of individual mss (as indicated by factors such as age and scribal accuracy), and the textual relations between groups of mss as expressed in a stemma or set of stemmata.
