Það myndi þá
þjóðkunnt vera,
mörgum manni
að munar stríði.
Létum síga
sáttmál okkur;
lék mér meirr ímun
meiðmar þiggja,
bauga rauða,
burar Sigmundar,
né ek annars mannz
aura vildak.   (eddic or germanic)

(‘Then my mind was in doubt about this,
whether I should fight and fell the slain,
a brave woman in a corslet, because of my brother.
That would become well known among the nations,
bring desire for strife to many a man.
‘We reconciled our disagreement;
but it was more to my mind to accept treasure,
red-gold rings from the son of Sigmund,
nor did I want any other man’s wealth.
