Gengu þess á milli
grimmar urðir.
Ein sat hon úti
aftan dags,
nam hon svá bert
um að mælaz:
Hafa skal ek Sigurð,
eða þó svelti—
mög frumungan,
mér á armi.   (eddic or germanic)

(Outside she sat alone, in the evening,
then quite openly she began to speak:
‘I shall have Sigurd—or else he’ll die—
that young man I’ll have in my arms.
