If you are sailing, may the rigging tear, and the clamps spring from the steering rudder, your canvas be torn to tatters, the sail fall down, and the braces all break, unless you forego your hatred towards Herrauðr and likewise grant forgiveness to Bósi.

seafaring. — [2-3] en krókar stökkvi af stýri ‘and the clamps spring from the steering rudder’: These lines refer to the stern rudder. In this context the clamps are attached to the rudder. Were they to spring off, the rudder would become dislodged from the stern (Falk 1912, 77). — [7] aktaumar ‘the braces’: The rope by means of which the sail is controlled (Falk 1912, 64-5; cf. Þul Skipa 10/3III).
