Note to stanza3. Anonymous Þulur, 31. Skipa heiti, 8 [Vol. 3, 873] [6] varta (f.) ‘prow-carving’: According to Falk (1912, 45), this is the poetic term for brandr ‘(ornamented) bow’ (see the next heiti), hence it most likely denotes carved ornaments decorating the side of a ship’s prow.
